Trump: ass-clown or asshole?
In moments of self-doubt, I’ve sometimes wondered whether he isn’t merely an ass-clown, and so unfairly classified as an asshole.
There’s a difference because you can be both obtuse–an “ass”– and prone to attention-seeking buffoonery–a “clown” and yet without all of this flowing from an underlying sense of entitlement.
A (very, perhaps overly) sympathetic take would say that much of his grandstanding is harmless, and that he knows better than to push too far. He doesn’t really feel entitled; he’s just winning the attention-getting game played daily by Facebook youth (who, feeling like little celebrities, constantly self-promote).
Well, after his reaction to Hurricane Sandy, here, and to election night, here, that take is pretty much out the window. So, if there was ever any doubt, asshole it is.
